Mine too. It worked fine when I was running it all by itself but when I
switched to the Winsock version, I aquired this problem. I tried several
things having to do with the environment variables and the location of
qvthost.rc. None of these worked. Anyone know how to fix this?

Simplified answer:
If you already have an HTML file on your PC, and you just want to use
Mosaic to read it, you don't need a network connection.
If you want to read files on other sites, you will need a network
connection. That connection can be dial-in. You would need an account
with a site which provides SLIP or PPP services.
The various "Internet starter" books provide an explanation of this.

NO! Stand alone is fine, the 'network' is the internet, through your
provider.
